Pet ID tags

Lost Dog

Did you know of all the dogs that stray and become lost only about half are reunited with their owners? If your dogs wear pet ID tags, these numbers can change.

Pet ID tags are one of the best ways of having your dog returned if he is lost. Most people know to look on a dog's collar for identification so if you have etched on it the dog's name, your phone number and address, You'll have a good chance of getting your dog back safe if he goes missing.

Dog ID tags do not need to be expensive and should be one of the first things, along with a good collar, that you buy for your dog.

They come in a variety of shapes and colors to match the personality of any dog, and if you feel like splashing out you can even buy designer pet id tags made of precious metals like gold or silver.

Most of us settle for the brass, stainless steel or plastic type that have done such a good job for years.

Check ID tags for signs of wear, (it's no good having an ID tag that no one can read). Use a second tag if you are going on holiday with your dog with your temporary address on.

In many countries it is a legal requirement for your dog to wear an ID tag even if he is microchipped, so it's a good idea to have both. If your dog becomes separated from his collar at least he'll have a back up to help him to get home safely.
