Dog Kennel - Important Decisions

When choosing a dog kennel there are certain important factors that need taking into consideration. The location of the dog kennel is critical for the comfort and security of your dog.

Think about the prevailing winds. Your dog's not going to feel comfortable in a house that's become a wind tunnel It will be much warmer in his kennel if it's facing away from the wind. Some dog kennels have two compartments giving your dog even more comfort and security.

The size of your dog is an obvious consideration. He should have enough room in his kennel to turn round but not too much space or he will not feel warm and secure. It's a good idea to have the floor of the kennel raised off the ground. This will stop the damp and cold rising up through to your dog. It will also prevent the floor from rotting if it's made of wood.

If you're having a kennel made for your dog, your options are better and you can even ask for a removable roof. This will make it much easier to clean and access bedding or food and water bowls.

A good dog mattress with a washable cover will soon make him feel at home in his new dog kennel.
